Considerations before replacing to 1024 encoder resolution motors on an Optimax Plus
The master-slave coupling of the x-axis drive on an Optimax Plus cutter poses certain requirements for motors and drives that need to be observed before changing out components to avoid unscheduled downtime. Scope of this document is to make maintenance personal aware of these requirements.
Motors & Cables
Always make sure to check the motor type tags before changing out motors. The type tag of a replacement motor has to match exactly with the motor that is installed on the machine. If a matching motor is not available, both master and slave motor will have to be changed out for two compatible motors with exact matching type tag data.
Compatible types are:
31-4084-5156, Lenze Servo compact motor Type MCS 12L41-SRMBO, encoder resolution 1024.
31-4084-5018, Lenze Servomotor type MDSKSAG 071-33, encoder resolution 1024, Discontinued
31-4084-5023, Lenze Servomotor type MDSKSAG 071-33, encoder resolution 512, Discontinued
Hegla currently only provides 31-4084-5156, the other listed motor types are discontinued. A downgrade to discontinued types or lower encoder resolution is not recommended. Cables and plugs are fully interchangeable for all compatible motor types.
Drives and Software
For machines built before 2008, in many cases switching motors will require to go from motors with an encoder resolution of 512 to motors with an encoder resolution of 1024.
Lenze 9300 drives need firmware version 6.0 and above to support encoder resolutions of 1024. For versions below 6.0, a change of both master and slave drive is required as well (Hegla part# 31-4084-4006). The firmware version can be determined from the drive’s type tag. Below picture shows how to determine the firmware version of the drive (here 8.0)
The drives will need updated parameter sets to accommodate the higher encoder resolution. Theses parameter sets can be provided by Hegla support.
Accessing drives with firmware 6.0 and above for parameter download and diagnosis requires Lenze GDC Software version 4.10 SP1 and above.
