Cutting Head (Pillar Post) Replacement
- Reference machine prior to shutdown (this assures the cutting head is pointing in the proper direction).
- Properly shut down power & air to machine.
- Remove cutting oil line & connector from top of cutting head. (Pt.1)
- Insert supplied Allen key (Hegla Part # 31-4900-0019 3mm x 200mm long/7.87”) into cutting head shaft from top and remove Allen screw.
- Pull pillar post straight down to remove.
- Reverse the above to install the new pillar post.
Perform cutting test to confirm proper installation and alignment of pillar post and cutting head.
- Cut 6 strips 50mm wide and 1000mm high then measure them before breakout to make sure that they are all the same size. Watch the bottom part of the cutting head when it starts to cut it should run true and not “wiggle” at the start. If it does “wiggle” then it is probably not running true and needs to be adjusted as described below.
- If they are not all the same size but are e.g. Large, Small, Large, Small then the Pillar Post is not 90° to the bridge
- Hold the pillar post in position and loosen the screw (Pt.2) so that you can turn the pillar post to the left or right and re-tighten the screw (Pt.2). Attention the machine must be on so that the motor holds it’s position before loosening the screw (Pt.2). !!Attention. Be sure that the position of (Pt.3) does not change in height !!
- Carry out the test cuts as done before and measure them. Repeat the process until the measurements fit the tolerances.
- Check that the sensor for cutting head on felt is working correctly, to do this push the cutting head down onto the felt and ensure that the sensor switches, in which case the cutting head will be forced up with the max air pressure on the machine or an NC error on the HMI will appear and motor power is lost. !! ATTENTION DANGER DO NOT USE YOUR FINGERS TO PUSH THE CUTTING HEAD DOWN !!
Do not forget to acknowledge the cutting head on felt before starting the next plan.
