Installing a new magnetic reading head with linear bearing:
If you received a bearing with a reading head pre-installed then the new magnetic reading head has been mounted in the new linear bearing and adjusted to accommodate a 0.3 mm distance to the magnetic scale protection band
*Switch the machine off completely before carrying out the following steps.*
- Note the position of the reading head in relation to the linear bearing.
- Disconnect the reading head plug and loosen the cable clamps and remove the 4 bolts holding the linear bearing in place
- Slide the linear bearing with the old reading head off the end of the guide rail.
- Slide the new linear bearing with new reading head onto the guide rail so that the reading head is in the same direction as the old one was. The plastic protective cover for the ball bearings will slide out as the new linear bearing is slid onto the guide rail.
- Check the mechanical setup of the reading head in relation to the magnetic scale, by putting a 0.3mm non-magnetic feeler gauge (the reading head should have came with a paper feeler gauge) between the reading head and the scale, the reading head should be approx. 0.3 mm from the magnetic scale (tolerance is 0.25 mm + 0.05 mm).
- If necessary adjust the distance by turning the screws on the top and bottom of the reading head mounting using a 2 mm Allen key.
- Replace the 4 bolts and tighten them equally so that the linear bearing sits square on the guide rail then re-check the 0.3mm distance to scale and adjust if necessary.
- Replace the cable clamps and connect the plug of the reading head.
- You are now ready to turn the machine back on and test.
