How to check the measurements on a cutting machine.

Do the following measurements in the order shown:

  1. Position a piece of glass on the table and cut a large square.
  2. Do not move the glass after cutting it must stay in the same position on the cutting table.
  3. Now measure to see if the square that the machine cut is a right angle square, the diagonals must be equal in length.
  4. Measure the front cut of the square to the front leading edge of the sheet.

Results:
• Is the square that was cut a right angle square ?
#1 Measurements = _______________ _______________
• Is the front cut parallel to the leading glass edge?
#2 Measurements = _______________ _______________

If square that was cut was not at a right angle (diagonal measurements are NOT even) then there could be a few issues related to this. See below for some items to inspect and resolutions:

1) The C-axis is not set up correctly or there is something bent in the cutting head. For a Rapidline with Bystronic cutting head see Rapidline - C-Axis Setup Document for more information. For an Optimax, Galactic or Rapidline (with Optimax cutting head) see the Optimax - C-axis Setup Document.

2) The bridge is not square. To square the bridge for a Rapidline or Galactic see Squaring the Bridge Document. To square the bridge on an Optimax see Optimax - Bridge Mechanical Adjustment (no shaft) Document.

3) There is too much play in the pinion gears (only applies to rack and pinon machine). To check the backlash see Optimax - Checking Backlash Document.

If the two trim measurements are not even then there could be a few issues related to this.

2) The bridge is not square (only applies to machines using glass edge sensor). To square the bridge for a Rapidline: RAPIDLINE - Squaring the Bridge Document. To square the bridge for a Galactic: GALACTIC - Squaring the Bridge Document. To square the bridge for a Galactic Plus: GALACTIC PLUS - Squaring the Bridge Document

3) The squaring stops are worn out or are uneven causing the glass to shift when squared.
